I’ve been using activated charcoal for several years now although originally I took it in capsule form. More recently I’ve been buying the powder and I especially like using it to make this gorgeous blue/black latte. Activated charcoal is produced by burning coconut shells and is “activated” by high temperatures that remove all the oxygen and change the chemical structure to create smaller particles. These particles have a large surface area, which can bind to toxins and make it easier for your body to eliminate them. So it can help with general detoxification and improve digestive symptoms such as excess gas and bloating. But I also think it just makes a really nice winter afternoon pick-me-up with not a drop of caffeine in sight!
1 tsp. activated charcoal powder
Pinch of ground vanilla bean |
Pinch of ground nutmeg
1 cup oat milk (Oatly Barista gives best results) |
Start warming the milk with the nutmeg and vanilla and add the charcoal powder to a coffee cup. Once the milk is hot, pour a little over the charcoal powder. Using a mini-whisk or aero-latte whisk the mixture until all the charcoal powder is blended into the milk. Slowly add a little more milk and whisk again. Add the remaining milk and serve. |
