For me, the smell of mulled wine is definitely the best bit; often after I’ve taken a few sips, the cloying sweetness combined with the alcohol makes me feel a little dizzy and very thirsty. So I was super-motivated to create an alcohol-free version with an authentic taste and that wouldn’t leave me feeling like I needed to hurtle down a black run to clear my head. So, this was what what I chucked into the pan yesterday for my Lunar Flow Celebration!
Mulled Beetroot Juice
- 1 litre unsweetened beetroot juice
- 1 litre unsweetened grape juice
- 3 star anise ( I ground mine in my coffee grinder and then strained the mixture before serving!)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground allspice
- 1 orange – juice and zest
Add everything to a large pan and bring to simmering point. Truthfully I can’t remember how long I left mine for but it was probably about 30 minutes on a low heat.
